Ashtanga Yoga: Ashtanga yoga is a system of yoga established by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois designed to purify the body through breath and movement to bring stillness to the mind. In a Led Primary Series class, students are led through the series in connection with their breath. Mysore-style practice is the traditional method of teaching Ashtanga yoga: 1-on-1 within a group setting. No prior yoga experience is necessary, only a commitment to grow and learn in the practice. Students work independently on the particular series of postures that is most appropriate for them. The teacher assists, adjusts and may quietly discuss particular difficulties or concerns with individual students during class. Beginners and those new to Ashtanga are welcome to start anytime and in any class.
Beginners' Yoga: A breath-based class that is suitable for all bodies and all levels, but targeted to those who are new to yoga. We will explore the breath and a series of standing and seated postures from the Ashtanga Primary Series. We’ll offer modifications for all postures so you can make the practice work specifically for you and your body.
Gentle Yoga: A breath-based class that is suitable for all bodies and all levels of experience. We will pair our breath with postures to give our bodies the ability to find strength, flexibility, and relaxation in our poses and practice.
Yoga for Teens & Pre-Teens: Yoga for Teens & Pre-Teens classes are for ages 11-17. Classes include postures, breathing exercises, and meditation. Teens also learn how yoga and meditation helps them in their daily lives. Ages 11-17.
Meditation: Sri HWL Poonja once said that "Meditation is when the mind is free and not holding thoughts. Let the thoughts come and go but do not run after them." Meditation at Sattva is led by Megan, and each session is intended to bring you out of your thoughts and into yourself, whether through use of breath, mantra, simple guidance, or silence. No experience is required. Come as you are, and be ready to look within.
