Moon Days

The Ashtanga Yoga method generally encourages you to rest (and skip practice) on "moon days:" days when the moon is at its fullest, or when we have a new moon in the sky. But why? Lots of theories abound, including the fact that our bodies are made up mostly of water, so we respond to the moon energetically the same way the ocean responds to the moon with the tides. And the more in tune you become with your body and its fluctuations through your yoga practice, the more you might notice that your body cycles with the moon. Whatever the reason, it's a good time to rest, reflect, and take time to enjoy the cycles of nature.
