Yoga & Mindful Movement

At Sattva, we are interested in teaching you yoga and mindful movement practices, not "selling" you yoga. So you will notice that each of these offerings is a series of classes intended to serve as a commitment--for you to show up, breathe, learn and integrate what your teacher is offering. Each series has its own teacher, so if you try one series of yoga, and it doesn't stick, feel free to come back to learn from one of our other many experienced, talented instructors. You must register in advance for any series you plan to take--click the "register here" button for the series you're interested in learning, and register through Gymatch. If you have questions, feel free to email the teacher listed next to the event.

Iyengar Yoga emphasizes correct alignment of all parts of the body within each yoga pose. This precision builds strength and stamina, balance and flexibility and a complete sense of well-being. Nicky--a Level 2 Certified Iyengar teacher, a 20-year practitioner of Iyengar Yoga, a renowned choreographer and a former professional dancer--will introduce you to Iyengar Yoga by sharing his enthusiasm for the method and for the simple, exquisite joy that comes with movement.

A variety of families of poses will be taught and explored over the course of this 4-part series. Mr Iyengar has said “yoga is for everyone” (regardless of age or stiffness!). Whether you are new to yoga or an experienced practitioner, everyone will benefit from integrating salient instruction with precise actions - bringing insight and presence to your practice. The use of props and modifications to the classical asanas (poses) will be shown as needed. All Levels are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Intro to Qigong for
Well-Being

Januar 11 & 18, 2026
11am-1pm
$95
Adults only

Qigong literally means "life energy cultivation." It is a holistic system of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing and meditation used for the purposes of Whole well-being of mind, body and spirit.    In this intro series, we begin with what is Qigong and why would you choose Qigong as a practice to enhance your life. You will even see how this practice is playful as we explore how to cultivate this life force energy within and around you. We take a look at the importance of learning that energy flows where attention goes.

In this series we focus on breath practice, as well as move into learning about the three dantians (energy centers of the body), postures, principles, stances, movements, meditation, and how all of this contributes to living into the relaxation, mindfulness and centeredness that the practice of Qigong provides, which in turn opens us up to so much more of our world.

Qigong is a gentle, slow-movement practice intended for us to enter a more natural "flow state."  It is an ancient practice used for thousands of years to open and expand awareness, increase energy, and awaken and enhance the natural energy system as a whole. This practice offers us the intention to slow down in order to notice and feel into our bodies and energies to find a connection to more optimal health and living.

This series of classes is a wonderful opportunity to begin your exploration of this life enhancing practice. Completion of this intro series also opens the door for you to engage further with Qigong via our ongoing monthly program at Sattva Yoga York.

Bhagavad Gita Study Group

Mondays in January & February
January 12, 19 and 26 and Feb 2, 2026

6:00pm-7:00pm

$5-$25 per class (suggested $10)

Each week, the Bhagavad Gita study group and sangha gathers in a spirit of reflection, community, and devotion. Together, participants explore the timeless wisdom of the Gita, reading verses and discussing their relevance to daily life, spiritual growth, and self-understanding. The gatherings typically begin with a short meditation or chanting to center the mind, followed by group study and open-hearted dialogue that welcomes diverse perspectives and insights. Beyond intellectual study, the sangha provides a supportive space for cultivating inner peace, compassion, and mindful living—nurturing both individual transformation and a shared sense of spiritual fellowship.

You don't have to have read the Bhagavad Gita to attend these groups. It helps, but you can also just come and absorb the teachings of one of the most seminal yogic texts. Please bring yourself and an open heart.

The Psoas & Yoga:
Practicing Yoga from a Place of Core Integrity

January 24 & 25, 2026
9am-11am AND 12pm-2pm Sat & Sun

$225 if you register by December 1

$250 after December 15

The word "psoas" is often thrown around in yoga trainings & in yoga classes, without much understanding of what it is, what it does, or how we can use it well in our lives and our yoga practices. In this weekend-long workshop, spend time with Megan Grandinetti, a 500-ERYT and a longtime bodywork practitioner, who has spent years studying the psoas in her own body, in others' bodies, and with her mentor, Liz Koch. We will first discover what the psoas is in our own bodies and where we encounter it in our everyday lives and in yoga practices. We will then dive into where modern yoga might have misconceptions about the psoas, and we will spend time finding our joints and figuring out how to move well in our joints. We will learn how to move from the spine, like the spinal organisms that we are, with a sense of core integrity in our yoga practices. And finally, we will work to integrate all of our core movement & awareness into our yoga practices in our final session.

What you can expect: a newfound understanding of the psoas, of yourself, and of your yoga practice. All levels & all bodies welcome, as long as you come with an open mind & an open heart. You do NOT have to be a yoga practitioner to take part in and absorb the lessons of this workshop.

Register by December 15 to receive a $25 discount using this code: PSOASEARLY2026
