Yoga & Qigong

At Sattva, we are interested in teaching you yoga and mindful movement practices, not "selling" you yoga. So you will notice that each of these offerings is a series of classes intended to serve as a commitment--for you to show up, breathe, learn and integrate what your teacher is offering. Each series has its own teacher, so if you try one series of yoga, and it doesn't stick, feel free to come back to learn from one of our other many experienced, talented instructors. You must register in advance for any series you plan to take--click the "register here" button for the series you're interested in learning, and register through Gymatch. If you have questions, feel free to email the teacher listed next to the event.

Tai Chi Class

Intro to Qigong

Sundays in January
January 7, 14, 21, & 28, 2024
11am-12pm
$80, adults only

Qigong literally means "life energy cultivation".   It is a holistic system of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing and meditation used for the purposes of holistic wellbeing for mind, body and spirit.

In this intro series, we will begin with what is known in Healing Qigong as "Open the Gates", which is a set of warm-up exercises that are a traditional way to prepare your body and mind for your Qigong practice.  They wake up your body by gently increasing your circulation, activating the lymphatic system, priming your neural pathways, lubricating your joints and connective tissues and loosening up tight muscles, and they put you in a good frame of mind.  Every week thereafter in this series, we will begin with "warm ups" and then move into a different practice/set of movements. We may also enter into some conversation as to Qigong's connections to Traditional Chinese Meditation.  This series of classes is a wonderful opportunity to begin your exploration of this life enhancing practice.

Qigong is a gentle, slow-movement practice intended for us to enter a more natural "flow state" of movement.  It is important that you honor your own physical movement limitations during practice, as well as to take impeccable care of your whole self.  This practice offers us the intention to slow down in order to notice and feel into our bodies and energies to find a connection to more optimal health and living.

Yoga for Golfers

Wednesdays in January

January 3, 10, 17, & 24, 2024
5:30pm-6:30pm
$95

Join Craig Snyder, a lifetime golfer and longtime yoga teacher, for a 4-week yoga series tailor-made for golfers. Craig will use his golf game and his yoga practice to help you find more strength, better balance, and greater flexibility for improved performance on the green. Accessible for all bodies, all genders and all ages of golfers, this series will help golfers focus on hip opening, proper knee movement, core strength & core twisting, ankle flexion, and spinal movement. And it will help golfers improve their focus because a big part of yoga is learning how to focus one’s mind on the posture at hand (much like golf!).

Craig will also teach you breath techniques that will help provide smooth movement, purposeful timing, and completion of movements. While he cannot guarantee a scratch handicap, Craig will provide participants with tools to help them feel stronger and more vibrant on and off the green, with better endurance for a lifetime of more enjoyable golf.

Not local to York, PA? No problem. This series will be made available via zoom to participants who cannot be at Sattva in person.
