Traditional Ashtanga Yoga Classes at Sattva
What is Ashtanga Yoga?
Ashtanga Yoga is more than just a physical exercise; it is a dedicated, transformative discipline designed to purify the body and bring profound stillness to the mind. As one of Sattva's most treasured offerings, our Ashtanga program is deeply rooted in lineage, honoring the traditional methods passed down from teacher to student. Here, we move with deep intention, creating a powerful alchemy between our bodies, our breath, our attention, and our energetic movements.
Meet your Ashtanga Teacher, Megan Grandinetti
Megan first encountered Ashtanga Yoga in 2013, and she immediately knew she had found her path. She began her training in 2014 in New York before returning to York, PA, where she connected with teachers heavily influenced by Nancy Gilgoff—one of Pattabhi Jois's first Western students. Megan spent years learning from Nancy across Bali, Maui, New York, Pennsylvania, and Berlin until Nancy's passing.
In 2021, Megan met Angela Jamison and continues to study with her today. Angela, like Nancy, embodies the Ashtanga practice and shares it exactly as her teacher (Sharath Jois) taught her. Megan feels profoundly blessed to call Angela her teacher, mentor, and friend, and she brings this same reverence for the lineage to every student she teaches at Sattva.

THE MYSORE METHOD
Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic system established by Sri T. Krishnamacharya - The Father of Modern Yoga
Rather than following a teacher guiding the whole room at once, you are taught individually within a group setting, a traditional approach known as the Mysore method.
Our Weekly Ashtanga Schedule:
Mysore Style:
Tuesdays and Thursdays (5:00 am – 8:00 am)
Wednesdays and Fridays (5:00 am – 7:00 am)Mysore for Beginners

Wednesdays and Fridays (7:00 am – 8:00 am)Led Primary Series
Saturdays (7:00 am – 8:30 am)
Memberships & Pricing
Because Ashtanga is a cumulative, daily practice, we operate primarily on a monthly membership model rather than a drop-in basis. This structure supports your consistency, honors the teacher-student relationship, and treats your practice as an ongoing education.
-
Our standard monthly membership is designed for students committed to practicing 2 to 6 days a week. Becoming a member of the Ashtanga program also unlocks special benefits to support your holistic wellness at Sattva:
Complimentary Saturday Classes: Members can attend any of Megan’s regular Saturday classes following Led Primary (including Meditation, Yin Yoga, and Somatic Saturdays) at absolutely no extra cost. These somatic and bones-based approaches offer a beautiful complementary lens to your dynamic Ashtanga practice.
Sattva Collective Perks: Members receive a flat $5 discount on any other class offered by different teachers at the Sattva center.
-
We know that stepping into a Mysore room for the first time is an investment of your time, energy, and trust. To welcome new students into the lineage and encourage the consistency required to truly learn the method, we offer a dedicated Intro Month for $125.
-
While regular attendance is highly encouraged, we understand that life happens and schedules shift. For established practitioners who cannot commit to a full month, or visiting Ashtangis passing through York, we offer a drop-in rate of $25 for our Mysore, Mysore for Beginners, and Led Primary classes.

Common Questions about Ashtanga
-
Absolutely. You can start in any of our Mysore for Beginners classes, but if you don’t feel comfortable being in a group setting, then you can work with Megan 1-on-1.
Please email Megan to set up your first private lesson. -
When you’re first starting out with Ashtanga, aim for 3 practices per week. As you start to grow in and commit to the practice, carve out time for 4, 5, and even 6 days per week of practice. For the record: “practice” can mean your whole practice, or it can just mean Surya Namaskaras (sun salutations) and your seated postures at the end. (Some amount of the practice is better than none, regardless of what the mind tells you.) But just one practice per week, or more sporadic practice, isn’t good for the body or the nervous system. That’s why all students are encouraged to at least take Surya Namaskaras 3-6 days/week, regardless of how often they practice at Sattva.
-
Every day, if you like! Aim for no fewer than 2-3 Ashtanga practices per week at Sattva. The more you practice in person with your teacher, the stronger and more integrated your practice becomes.
Also, you will get as much out of breathing with and learning from other students in the room as you will from having personal instruction.
-
Megan welcomes other yoga practitioners to the Ashtanga program, but you can't practice Led with us until you've had some time with us in the Mysore room to get used to the practice before you do it at our Saturday pace (usually about a month).
However, visitors and new students are always welcome to observe our Saturday Led class.
If you'd like to observe, please email Megan to let her know you will be coming.
-
Congratulations! If you already have an established Ashtanga practice, and you become pregnant, talk to Megan as early as you can in your pregnancy.
If you aren’t an established Ashtangi, pregnancy is NOT the time to start this practice, so wait until you are past your “fourth trimester” to begin.
-
If you already have an Ashtanga practice and are visiting central PA, you are welcome to join us at Sattva while you're in York. $75 for one week of practice, $160 for one month of practice.
-
Absolutely. No one will ever be turned away for lack of funds. What is necessary, however, is a strong desire to learn and a full month's commitment to the practice (showing up 2-3 days per week as you're learning).
If you're committed to learning and you're in financial need, Megan offers a sliding scale membership based on income.
