What is Yin Yoga?
Yin asks us to move INward. Toward ourselves, toward a deeper knowing of our bodies, beyond a superficial understanding. We hold poses for longer periods (2-5 minutes), allowing time and gravity to do the work instead of trying to accomplish great feats with our muscles. We find our appropriate edge in the pose where our body can hold without much effort and with perhaps some discomfort but no sharp pain. And we find stillness in the body, and through stillness in the body, find the stillness that we naturally are.

Common Questions about Yin Yoga
-
YES! Yin Yoga is a very beginner-friendly practice. We use a lot of props and blankets in our York studio to make each pose comfortable and accessible for every body that attends.
-
By participating in this practice, you can expect:
Deep relaxation
Stress relief
Increased body awareness
More space and mobility in connective tissues and joints
A dedicated space for slowing down from a fast-paced life
-
As long as it's approved by your OB/GYN for you to exercise, Yin can be done safely in pregnant bodies. Please make sure you tell Megan about your pregnancy before class begins so she can help you modify poses as needed to keep you and your baby safe.
-
Unlike faster-paced "Yang" classes that focus on muscle engagement and flowing movements, our monthly Yin Yoga class asks you to move inward. We hold floor-based poses for 2 to 5 minutes, allowing time and gravity to gently target your joints, fascia, and connective tissues for a deeper, more restorative release.
